Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.
Trust in the Lord (firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability and strength of God)
With all your heart (very core of your being)
and lean not on your own understanding; (your limited human comprehension)
in all your ways (every action, thought, characteristic and behavior)
acknowledge him (know God personally and be in fellowship with him)
and he will make your paths straight. (clear obstacles and enable one to go forward)
What a promise these verses provide the believer. God never fails. Often his plan for us is not what we envision for ourselves, but he already knows the rest of the story and knows what is best for us. We only need to follow the instruction of these verses knowing that, while we will still face some obstacles, those obstacles will not overwhelm us or prevent us from achieving what God has in store for us. And think of the peace that comes with knowing that no matter the circumstances, God is going before us making a way, as the song says, God can make a way when there seems to be no way. The peace comes from the reassurance that we are not facing life alone. He did not create us and throw us out into the world to see what happens. He has a plan for you and me and cares enough to carry us through if we will let him, but we have to let go and let him have total control. Lord, give us the courage to step out in faith and trust in you just as your word says, knowing that faith is a 2-step process, first we have to trust and then we have to step out in that faith and trust knowing you will not fail us.
